Dice Rules (Combat, Charisma and Intelligence)

dice

When you create a character you have to change to choose your stats and where you stat bonuses may be, you also can choose skills and merits to aid your character as well as flaws than can hinder them.

In this thread you can learn how to use dice in combat, charisma and intelligence based RP.

COMBAT

The most common occurrence where you may have to use dice rolls is combat, this is anything from a simple slap to a full blown battle. For this section we will use the follow stats, skills, merits and flaws. These are usually the stats for NPC Guards, although you can customize your guard with approval of an Admin.

Strength: 9
Constitution: 10
Intelligence: 6
Charisma: 6

Skills: Sword and Shield, Perception.
Merits: Strong
Flaws: Slow

For the example we will have two guards fighting each other. First thing is the attack would make their post of what they aim to do.

Guard 1 aims a strike to Guard 2’s left arm with his blade, bringing it down in a wide arc in an attempt to disarm his opponent.

The attacker would then roll one D100

D100: 20

He would then take that value and add his Strength stat to it

20 + 9 = 29

Then he looks at what relevant Skills and Merits he has, in this case he has Sword and Shield as a skill and Strong as a Merit. He may add 5 points for each relevant skill and merit, since he has two he may add a total of 10 points.

29 + 10 = 39

Then we look at Flaws, any relevant flaws are equal to -5 points. In this instance he has one relevant flaw, he is slow, this means he has to -5 from his current total.

39 – 5 = 34

This is then his total value for his attack and the defender by then roll one D100 to see if the attack hits or misses, perhaps even blocked.

D100: 80

The defender then takes this value and adds his Constitution stat to it

80 + 10 = 90

Then he looks at what relevant Skills and Merits he has, in this case he has Perception as a skill which can aid him in seeing the attack is coming. He may add 5 points for each relevant skill and merit, since he only has one he may only add 5 points

90 + 5 = 95

Then we look at Flaws, any relevant flaws are equal to -5 points. In this instance he has one relevant flaw, he is slow, this means he has to -5 from his current total.

95 – 5 = 90

This is now his total value and we must compare the two scores.

Guard 1: 34
Guard 2: 90

This means that the attack misses or is blocked by the defender, since the score has such a large difference it is more likely to be that the attack missed rather than was blocked but be realistic with response posts. Even if the roll difference is high in close combat it may be more realistic to say a hit was blocked rather than missed completely.
Once the winner of the roll is decided the defender would then make their post containing the results and may even add an attack into their post if they choose.

Guard 2 brings up his shield in time to block the blow from his opponent, then stopping to give a bow to the audience before announcing the end of the lesson.

INTELLIGENCE/CHARISMA

Another way to use dice is to decide if you manage to talk your way out of trouble or are able to out smart somebody else, the instructions for this is much the same as with combat except instead or Strength against Constitution the defense for Intelligence is Intelligence and the defense for Charisma is Charisma.

For this example we will use the basic stats for an NPC Handmaiden or Septa

Strength: 5
Constitution: 6
Intelligence: 10
Charisma: 10

Skills: Observant
Merits: Smooth Talker
Flaws: None

For the example we will have one Handmaiden trying to charm the other, with Charisma or Intelligence rolls it can be useful to put into your post what you are trying to do, that way the other play will understand why it is that you are rolling. The first step is the one attempting the act would make their post.

Handmaiden 1 eyes the last honeycake for a long time before smiling to Handmaiden 2 “I do so love Honeycakes… I do not get them very often.” She smiles sweetly, she wanted the last cake but wasn’t going to just take it… Instead she would attempt to use her charisma to charm the other into giving it to her.

They would then roll one D100

D100: 88

She would then take that value and add her Charisma stat to it

88 + 10 = 98

Then she looks at what relevant Skills and Merits she has, in this case she has Smooth Talker as a merit. For each relevant skill or merit she may add 5 points, since she only has one she may only add a total of 5 points

98 + 5 = 103

Then we look at Flaws, any relevant flaws are equal to -5 points. In this instance she has no relevant flaws, this means she does not have to minus any points to her total

103 – 0 = 103

This is then her total Charisma value and the one defending must roll one D100 to then follow the same process as above, however Smooth Talker is only relevant if you are the one attempting to charm not the one defending but being Observant is now relevant to observe what the other player is trying to do.

Handmaiden 2 rolls

D100: 71

She would then take that value and add her Charisma stat to it

71 + 10 = 81

Then she looks at what relevant Skills and Merits she has, in this case she has Observant as a skill. For each relevant skill or merit she may add 5 points, since she only has one she may only add a total of 5 points

81 + 5 = 86

Then we look at Flaws, any relevant flaws are equal to -5 points. In this instance she has no relevant flaws, this means she does not have to minus any points to her total

86 – 0 = 86

So we now have both players total roll, we must compare the two to see if Handmaiden 1’s attempt to charm was successful.

Handmaiden 1: 103
Handmaiden 2: 86

This shows that the attempt was successful and so Handmaiden 2 may post giving the result of the dice rolls, depending of the difference between the two rolls can decide if it is willing or somewhat reluctant.

Handmaiden 2 chuckles slightly and pushes the plate a little closer to Handmaiden 2 “Go ahead, I have already eaten my fill.” She smiles softly before continuing what she was doing.
