Leveling your Character/Stats

Throne of Thorns is a stat-building roleplay sim. What does this mean? This means that your characters are meant to evolve and grow over time. In addition to our unique skill-building system, we also implement stat building as well. Here’s the basics.

Creating a Character


☀ New characters will begin at level 1, with 25 points to assign to their stats however they see fit. Please assign these stats with your desired character in mind, and make sure they make sense. For example, if you’re putting a ton of points in strength, and zero points in intelligence, you’ve basically just created yourself a Hodor. Please don’t be a Hodor.


Level Intervals


☀ The level intervals are as follows:
LEVEL 1 = 25 points. This is what you begin with at character creation
LEVEL 2 = 40 points. You receive 5 extra points when you hit level 2
LEVEL 3 = 55 points. You receive 5 extra points when you hit level 3
LEVEL 4 = 70 points. You receive 5 extra points when you hit level 4
LEVEL 5 = 85 points.

**PLEASE NOTE: Your bonus stats you get for your character class (ex. +4 for Merchant class) do not count toward your total stat points. They are called bonuses for a reason!


Leveling Your Stats


☀ Each week you may increase your stats by 2 through roleplay. This can be any stat you wish. You must post the relevant RP in which you gained this stat to the forums so that they may be monitored by admins. You do not need to paste the entire scene, just enough that it is relevant and makes sense.

☀ Not all stat increases need to be rolled for, however admins do highly prefer dice rolls as it helps reduce the risk of god-modding and disputes.

☀ Strength/Constitution
These will mostly be leveled through some form of combat – may that be simply sparring or an actual fight. Another way to increase these stats would be if you were teaching someone a weapon proficiency or combat skill that you have, or if you were learning from someone else. Please remember, that although you may gain stat points from learning each week, it takes 4 RP weeks to master the skill, all the while you are still building the stats.

☀ Intelligence
Approach this mostly as diplomatic measures, or strategic moves. Scenarios that would award you intelligence stats would be holding diplomatic meetings, creating alliances, attending and participating in council meetings (yes, you must participate and put forth ideas/suggestions in said meetings). Another way to increase this stat would be if you were teaching someone something such as a language or a how to fish, or if you were learning from someone else. Please remember, that although you may gain stat points from learning each week, it takes 4 RP weeks to master the skill, all the while you are still building the stats.

☀ Charisma
This is essentially how you make your personality work for you. Charisma stats can be achieved by getting out there and meeting new people, making new friends, hosting dinners/tea parties, seducing another player, or perhaps even bribing someone to do your bidding. Another way to increase this stat would be if you were teaching someone something such as a a dance or musical instrument, or if you were learning from someone else. Please remember, that although you may gain stat points from learning each week, it takes 4 RP weeks to master the skill, all the while you are still building the stats.

**Keep in mind that sometimes charisma and intelligence can go very closely hand-in-hand. If you are using the dice, make sure you are making it clear which stat you are applying. Or, if for example, it is a scenario where someone is teaching you a musical instrument, you may choose whether to award your stat points into intelligence or charisma. Just make it clear on your forum post which you are choosing.**

☀ Herbology
This is the practice of making helpful potions or harmful poisons to affect yourself or those around you. Please remember, lethal poisons are currently not playable in ToT. Please refer to the Herbology Rules and Guidelines for the current list of potions/poisons available and the materials needed to make them.
Herbology Rules and Guidelines
Gathering/buying reagents, or buying a ready-made item does not gain you a stat point in herbology. However, using said item does. Please keep in mind that even if you did not create the item, your herbology skill will be applied to the roll when using it (you are the one administering it after all!). Obviously, if you are creating your own potions/poisons, and creating them for others, you will increase your stats that way as well. Another way to increase this stat would be if you were teaching someone a recipe or concoction, or if you were learning from someone else. Please remember, that although you may gain stat points from learning each week, it takes 4 RP weeks to master the skill, all the while you are still building the stats.


Additionally


From time to time, admins or moderators will NPC characters with a particular skill set that they are willing to teach another player. This is a first come, first serve event, and we will try to keep it random, yet fair. If you miss out on this, have no fear – it will happen again! Or perhaps the person who beat you to it will now be able to teach you!

As mentioned above, rolling the dice is always preferable to keep things fair and indisputable, but it will also make it clear in your forum posts where you are attempting to use/gain your skill. Any player caught increasing their stat points without posting to the forum will be subject to disciplinary action.
